Every driver is familiar with the dangerous roads in their area. Whether it’s that one hairpin turn or blind stop that is a particularly treacherous place to drive, every state has its hazardous roads, and Virginia is no exception.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the following roads are the most dangerous ones in Virginia:

  1. US 58 — In past years, this stretch of highway near Virginia Beach and along the Virginia/Kentucky border experienced 45 fatalities. US-58 has been tied for the 55th most dangerous highway in the entire nation.
  2. US-64 — Between 2018 and 2020, certain stretches of US-64 saw a significant number of fatal crashes, particularly between exits 258 and 264. In this short stretch of road there were 11 fatal crashes.
  3. I-295 — This highway was a hot spot for crashes in Virginia between 2018 and 2020. Particularly between exit 41A and exit 34B, there were eight fatal crashes.

Knowing where some of the most dangerous roads in Virginia are located can help drivers in being extra cautious, and attentive, when driving on them.

Virginia continues to implement new highway safety laws aimed at reducing fatalities and crashes by punishing drivers for using handheld phones on the road, failing to change lanes when passing emergency vehicles and engaging in other unsafe driving behaviors.

If you experience an accident on one of these dangerous Virginia roads, or any other road in the state, and believe that the driver who hit you may have been drinking, texting or acting negligent in any way that may have caused the collision, you should consider bringing a claim against the driver so that you can collect compensation for your medical bills, missed wages and pain and suffering. It may be helpful to speak with an experienced automobile accident attorney about your accident, what the insurance claim process looks like and whether additional legal action may be necessary.
